Awards season is approaching for the publishing industry, and we’re proud to say that TCOLondon has been honoured with multiple major award nominations.
First up is the Design and Art Direction (D&AD) awards, which have celebrated and nurtured outstanding work in design and advertising since 1962. This is the Champions League of publishing creativity, showcasing the very best work of the year.
Over a mammoth 10-day event at Kensington Olympia, judges were asked to look for work based on a ‘highly original and inspiring idea’, executed ‘exceptionally well’, with a final product that is ‘relevant to its context’.
If you do something really special, you get in the D&AD book, but if you do something utterly, mind-blowingly mega, you get nominated for a Yellow Pencil – ‘recognised the world over as a symbol of true creative achievement.’

LWLies and Huck Where The Wild Things Are covers by Geoff McFetridge
TCOLondon has been nominated for a Yellow Pencil for its Huck and LWLies Where The Wild Things Are / The Wild World of Spike Jonze double cover concept, illustrated by Geoff McFetridge. This is a reward for the pioneering effort of linking two different magazines with a singular aesthetic thread, brilliantly executed by Geoff.
And that’s not all. LWLies and Huck Creative Directors Paul Willoughby and Rob Longworth have both been nominated for Designer of the Year by the Periodical Publishers’ Association (PPA). Billing itself as ‘the most coveted awards in the magazine industry, showcasing excellence, rewarding innovation, and providing the benchmark by which the UK magazine industry judges itself’, the PPA awards are officially a Big Deal, and both Rob and Paul have a great chance of winning.
So TCOLondon continues to hold its own against the big publishing companies, proving that flair, imagination and true creativity – not just major budgets – will get you the recognition that you deserve.
