We’ve been to Buenos Aires and back for LWLies #29. Not literally, unfortunately, but in the company’s of Francis Ford Coppola’s Tetro.

Working from his first original screenplay since The Conversation in 1974, Coppola has produced his best film in a generation – a richly sympathetic study of family crisis shot in gorgeous shades of black and white.

Tetro stars Vincent Gallo as a ‘genius without the accomplishments’, a frustrated writer living in the shadow of his composer father. When his younger brother, Bennie (played by the brilliant newcomer Alden Ehrenreich) comes to stay, innocence will clash with sophistication and dark secrets will be revealed.

Inspired by the film, we’ve got exclusive interviews with Gallo, Coppola and Ehrenreich, not to mention a fascinating insight into the edit suite of Walter Murch. There’s all that plus a deconstruction of Total Cinema; a look at what happens when the filmmaking inmates take over the production asylum; a visual feature recovered from an Argentine shoebox; and a rundown of dysfunctional filmmaking dynasties.

Not to mention the usual assortment of in depth reviews, Cult Hero, The Archive and interviews with the likes of Harmony Korine, Michael Winterbottom and more.

The magazine hits shelves on May 1, and will be available online for subscribers on the same day. Non-subscribers will have to wait a month to check out the digital edition.

We hope you enjoy it.
