Press TV is the Iranian-owned channel that delivers news, analysis, sport and documentaries with an emphasis on West Asia, Central Asia and the Middle East. Star reporters include George Galloway and Andrew Gilligan.
Cine Politics is its flagship film programme, focussing on the political and current affairs angles behind recently released documentaries and fiction films. This week’s show is dedicated to Robert Kenner’s Food Inc.
Inspired by Eric Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation (and featuring the author among a roster of talking heads), Kenner’s film is a devastating account of the industrialisation of the food industry, and what happens when a handful of powerful corporations take control of the process from seed to supermarket.
Investigating the rise in food-related pandemics, genetically modified crops and the exploitative economic relationship between industry and workforce, Kenner suggests that we have been deliberately blinded to the reality of food production, and it is now time to throw off the shackles of consumer apathy.
TCOLondon Editorial Director Matt Bochenski was joined by Dr Mae-Wan Ho of the Institute of Science in Society for an engaging conversation with presenter Russell Michaels.
